KT Corp opens data centre in Seoul, South Korea

South Korean telco KT Corp. last week launched a new data centre in Seoul.

The new facility, located in the capital’s southwestern ward of Guro, is the company’s 14th data centre. The facility can accommodate 335 racks.

Rather than own and operate its own facility, the telco is leasing the facility from local colo provider Dreammark One in order to respond to increased customer demand.

Odata breaks ground on data centre outside Santiago

Odata plans to build its first data centre in Chile.

The new facility will be located in Lampa, to the northwest of capital city Santiago.

When fully developed, the 6-hectare site will house more than 40,000 sqm (430,500 sq ft) of data centre buildings totalling 28MW of capacity.

The company says it will invest $217 million into the development, and will support around 500 jobs during the construction phase and 100 jobs when fully operational.

DataVita acquires Fortis data centre in Glasgow, Scotland

Scottish data centre firm DataVita has acquired the Fortis data centre outside Glasgow, Lanarkshire.

Located outside Glasgow, the Fortis facility is a Tier-III certified data centre offering four 1,000 sqm (10,700 sq ft) data halls across two connected buildings. It was built in 2021 by HFD Group.

The company plans to take the facility off-grid, generating its own electricity from wind and battery-powered back-up systems.

Foxconn opens globe-shaped data centre at Wisconsin facility

Foxconn has seemingly opened its Globe Data Center in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin with little fanfare.

The 34,000 sq ft (3,000 sq m) High-Performance Computing Data Center Globe (HPCDC Globe) includes a 100 ft steel sphere as part of its design. It is part of a six-building project and will house the company’s manufacturing subsidiary, Foxconn Industrial Internet (Fii).

The company completed the steel globe frame in September 2020 before beginning the process of installing 642 windows. Foxconn is yet to make an announcement about the status of the facility, and the last update on the Racine County site in March said the facility was about to undergo mechanical startup and testing.
