The Design stage should allow the design team to concentrate on one thing, the one thing they do best, Design. Management systems should allow the designers to get on with design in a controlled environment, without stifling their creativity.
What is it?
Although conceived by some as a role for blending creative design and the overall project structure, in modern design and construct, depending on the contract type, the design typically develops throughout both the design & construction phases., There is a large focus on managing and sharing information effectively between the project design team, contractors and future users to reduce time, cost and risk in all phases of the project.
How do we digitalise it?
BIM and automated processes are a central part of digital design. BIM designates the use of a single, integrated 3D model throughout the design and construction life cycle of a project. By utilising the data that is available, and aligning this to the design and construction program, it is easier to ensure that deliverables such as drawings and technical submittals are on track. Utilising new technologies and automated data collection techniques, it is possible to develop smart dashboards and actively manage the approvals processes; monitor progress, delivering reduced design risk, promote greater program certainty and ultimately an increased quality of service.
- Real time visuals on performance
- Structure which promotes accountability
- Automated updates and dashboarding
- De-risk impact on overall schedule
- Vast improvement on productivitiy and efficiency
